Het geven en het reageren op een compliment is wellicht in iedere taal lastig. De beste manier om op een compliment te reageren is om de persoon simpelweg te bedanken voor de vriendelijke woorden en te glimlachen.
Laat het compliment op je inwerken en bagatelliseer het niet. Zoek er niets achter maar neem het gewoon aan. Het is altijd handig om ook in het Engels de juiste woorden te hebben om een compliment te geven of op een juiste manier hierop te kunnen reageren.

Sommige mensen reageren in een nederige manier, anderen zullen eerder vissen naar een compliment.

Je bent misschien geneigd om een compliment te ontkrachten omdat het geen moeite was of in de hoop nederig over te komen maar dat kan verkeerd overkomen. Dus gebruik deze zinnen niet! Valse bescheidenheid is niet wenselijk op dit moment. Accepteer het compliment, ook als je het er niet helemaal mee eens bent.
